Spiced Pita Chips [Recipe]

Today I’m gonna teach you how to make pita chips.  You can make these spicy or mild, whatever you like.  These are an easy snack, which are great served on a hot summer day with a bowl of hummus.  We often like to make these for big parties for people to snack on– they’re easy to make, inexpensive, and a *bit* of a healthier option than potato chips.  😉

Here’s what you’re going to need!

Spiced Pita Chips

Pita bread (as much as you need)
Extra Virgin olive oil
Ground Cumin
Cayenne Pepper (optional)

To start off, heat your oven to 400 degrees F.  Next, lay out your pita on an ungreased cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and spread the oil over the top of the pita bread with a pastry brush.  Then, lightly sprinkle some of each of the different spices over the face of the pita bread.

If you don’t want spicy pita chips, omit the cayenne.  You can also sprinkle powdered garlic over them if you want, but since I always serve these with a bowl of hummus (and hummus is loaded with garlic), I don’t want to go overboard.

Once the pita is spiced and the oven is hot, bake them for 7-10 minutes, or until golden brown.  Cool on wire racks, and then break the pita into pieces.

If you aren’t serving them immediately, store the chips in an airtight container or plastic bag.
