I recently had the joy of making this adorable little woodland creature themed cake for a baby shower, and… I loved it. I’ve been in the mode of “Wanting to make more cake tutorials” for my blog, so I’ve taken a select few orders for cakes that fit the types of things I want to teach. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to document this whole process – but I had to the share the pictures of the finished product because… it’s too cute not to share!

When I lived in Germany, I was asked to to paint little woodland animals on the wall of a friend’s kids’ bedroom, and when the opportunity came up to make a cake with the same kind look… I had to do it! This is one of my favourite child/baby themes, and there’s something in me that so enjoys creating art in this style. Maybe it’s because it brings me back to my childhood and some of the first books I read… I somehow feel like I get to be a part of the magic this way.

Did you have a favourite book, or favourite books, when you were a kid? And if so, what was it? I’d love to hear. I always loved the original Winnie the Pooh books, and when I got a little older, “The Wind in the Willows.” Among many others, of course, but those come to mind when I look at this cake… What about you?
