This easy pizza recipe for kids is simple to make, quick to assemble, and simple to clean up – which makes it fun, delicious, and convenient for a last minute pizza night. All you need are a few simple ingredients, a couple of kitchen utensils, and a group of aspiring young bakers.

Why you will love this pizza recipe for kids
This recipe for easy mini pizzas is a great way to make your own pizzas at home with kids. Made with Greek pita as the crust, the prep work is so minimal that you can throw this together at the last second pretty much any time – and still have it taste delicious! In my opinion, this is the easiest way (hands down) to make pizzas with little kids.
The best toppings for homemade pizza
What are the best pizza toppings? That, my friend, is entirely up to you. Your personal preference is what makes pizza the best!
When it comes to kids, I find that most kids like pizza with just cheese or cheese + some kind of meat (such as pepperoni or bacon). When I make these little pizzas with kids, I like to throw together a few options so that they can pick and choose what they want to put on their own pizza.
Getting kids to eat veggies: the best way to sneak them in
I find younger kids more likely to eat vegetables if they are making their own pizzas. That said, the more toppings options kids get to add, the longer they get to spend making their pizza: meaning, if you want a kid to pile their pizza high with good veggies, just give them lots of options – and then get them to make their own!
It’s a win-win: kids put on their own toppings, and inevitably, they end up using (and eating!) some of the veggies in front of them.

Some of my favorite toppings options:
In addition to tomato sauce (recipe included below), any combination of these toppings and cheeses are sure to make your mini pizzas extra great!
- Pepperoni
- Bacon
- Ham
- Chicken breast, cooked
- Green bell peppers
- Red peppers
- Banana peppers
- Mushrooms (fresh)
- Mushrooms (canned)
- Green olives
- Black olives
- Kalamata olives
- Onions
- Red onions
- Spinach leaves
- Fresh basil leaves
- Broccoli (slightly cooked)
- Tomatoes, thinly sliced
- Cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
- Pizza Mozzarella
- Baby Mozzarella
- Feta cheese
- Red pepper flakes
- Parmesan cheese, sprinkled on top
The best cheese for pizza
I like to use pizza mozzarella. Any type of mozzarella or soft mild cheese will work, however, so in a pinch feel free to use baby mozzarella, marble cheddar, or even a nice mild cheddar cheese.

Making pizzas ahead of time
These little pizza can be assembled and frozen ahead of time! If you’ve been wanting to figure out a way to make frozen pizza, this is a really great way to do it. However, the fun in making your own mini pizzas is all in the process of preparing them, so while you can freeze them ahead, I recommend making them fresh right before you want to serve them.
That said, I do love to make my pizza sauce and freeze it, and purchase and freeze the pita bread rounds ahead of time as well. Having those two things on hand and ready at a moment’s notice can be so handy for a last minute, fun dinner.
How to bake homemade pizza
One thing that makes this homemade pizza recipe so great is that it doesn’t require a pizza stone, pizza pans, or any other fancy frills to make it happen – just a baking sheet and a bunch of eager little kiddos! I like to do this with a group of little kids (for movie nights or birthday parties), and then just throw 4-6 individual pizzas on cookie sheets to go in the oven when they’re ready.
You could also try making these one at a time in an air fryer, but for the sake of speed for a group, I recommend just doing it in the oven.

Other crust options
Homemade pizza dough
You can of course follow this recipe with pizza dough as a base*, just baking them a little longer to make sure the dough is cooked through.
Other pre-made bread bases
Other options more similar to this recipe would be to use another type of pre-made thick bread, such as naan bread or bagels (for bagel pizzas). You could also make these on tortillas if you wanted; however, just make sure that you reduce the cooking time slightly, and bear in mind that tortilla pizza will be a lot more messy and a lot less structured. They may also end up with a more crispy crust on the edges in particular, since tortillas would make a very thin crust pizza.
*My Easy Homemade Pizza Crust Recipe is my favorite way to make homemade crust. One large pizza crust from this recipe will perfectly yield four 6″-8″ mini pizzas. If you do make your own crust, I recommend baking the pizzas on non-stick pans or on a piece of parchment paper.
You will need:
- Ingredients (see recipe card)
- Baking sheet
- Medium mixing bowl
- Small bowls (for different toppings)
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Cheese grater
- Sharp knives, for prepping toppings
- Cutting board

Instructions
-

Prepare the toppings:
-
Wash and chop the vegetables, cut the meat, and shred the cheese. Set aside.
Assemble the pizzas:
-
Arrange the pita breads and prepared toppings on a clean work surface in front of you. Spread each pita with a thin layer of sauce, and then sprinkle to cover with mozzarella cheese.
-
Scatter with your favorite toppings, and bake for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted bubbly. Serve warm.
Recipe Notes
Note: The pans are lined with parchment paper in this tutorial, but this is only necessary if you want no-fuss cleanup. The pizzas will not stick unless the cheese is spilling off the sides.

Such a simple but delicious recipe! I made the sauce tonight for my family, but on buns instead of pita and it worked great!
Love this! Thanks for the comment, Jerrica!
