I always used to wonder what I would crave if I ever got pregnant, and well everyone: this mango pineapple smoothie bowl is pretty much the ultimate satisfaction experience for this pregnant body.
When I was pregnant with my first baby, my husband and I decided to buy ourselves a Ninja food processor/blender set for Christmas (he wanted the blender and I wanted the food processor). And the result, I’ll just say, is that the smoothies have been flowing from our home, and I could not be happier about it!
What is a smoothie bowl?
Smoothie bowls are a great, hearty way to fill up at the beginning of the day. They are usually made with a thick fruit smoothie base, and then topped with all of your favourite fresh fruits, nuts and seeds. Often, they are beautifully decorated, which makes them so fun and beautiful to have set in front of you!
How can you get a thick texture for a smoothie bowl?
The secret to great, thick smoothies is always going to be frozen fruit. Adding ice can give you a nice smoothie texture, but to get that ice-cream-thick, spoonful of goodness texture, you really want to make sure you’re working with frozen fruit for optimal results.
What are some good substitutions for this recipe?
You can use just about anything, but to keep the bright orange colour and delicious flavour profile, I recommend going with things like peaches, nectarines, or guava for the fruit. In place of yogurt, you could use coconut milk or almond milk.
What’s the best time to make a smoothie bowl?
Now. The best time is now.
Haha, no, in all seriousness though: These can be made for just about anything. Personally, I love smoothie bowls for breakfast, but you can make them as a really great hearty snack (especially after a workout), or even in mini form for a ladies’ night… They are so pretty, so yummy, and so healthy that you can’t really feel bad about eating them.
Are smoothie bowls good for your health?
As I just mentioned, yes, they are! But, like all things, they should be eaten in moderation. Fruit sugar is still, after all, sugar – and an excess of just about anything can mess you up.
So, enjoy the benefits of fresh fruit, yogurt, and delicious natural crunchy toppings… But… Yeah. Keep it moderate, and feel free to add some other health boosting ingredients like collagen or whey protein powder!
