Ok guys, be excited: here are 10 great, homemade desserts to make for Mother’s Day! From truffles to muffins to cake, I hope you can find some good inspiration here to make your mama feel special.

While I typically love to buy flowers for my mom for Mother’s Day, there is also something really great about making that special, sweet lady a special, sweet treat. It just seems fitting, doesn’t it? Also, being a mother myself (and someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen), I know how thoughtful it seems when someone goes out of their way to make something nice for me.

About my desserts for Mother’s Day list:

I will begin this list with chocolate, since for most women, flowers and chocolate can never go wrong. Beyond that, I’ve included a variety on this list that I know my mom and I enjoy, some of which can be prepared ahead, and some of which are just so incredibly delicious (and pretty!), they’re sure to be well received!

I’ll list a little description of each recipe, and then the ingredients and tools you will need for each one, just to make it easy to see if you have what you need. Are you ready? Here we go!

#1: Milk Chocolate Truffles

I think I mentioned somewhere that these recipes were simple… or did I? This recipe has only 3 main ingredients, and it never fails to please. These little chocolate bombs of joy can be made a week or two ahead of time, giving you lots of time to make sure they turned out right. You need some time to properly taste test, am I right?

Try these truffle variations as well, if you think your mama would prefer dark, white, or coconut chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Or, since we’re in the business of asking what desserts to make for Mother’s Day, why not consider making several of these options?

To make this recipe, you will need:

#6: Miniature Cheesecake Trifles

Maybe it’s a me-thing and not specifically a mom-thing, but cheesecake has got to be one of my all-time favourite desserts, and these little trifles are layered up with a thick centre of creamy cheesecake goodness. If your mama is a cheesecake lover, she will love these little individual trifles. Again, this dessert is easy to make ahead of time and completely delicious!

#7: Miniature Apple Turnovers

You can make these delicious apple turnovers with homemade pastry and filling, or go the simple route and pick those up pre-made. Either way, these can be assembled far in advance and put into the freezer to be baked fresh on the morning of Mother’s Day to surprise your mama!

#8: Bohemian Nut Roll

Here’s another one my mom used to make for us when we were kids, and I completely love it. This simple pastry stuffed with meringue and nuts is one of the fastest things to whip together and sooo rewarding to make. It bursts open in the oven, exposing toasted marshmallowy meringue and chopped nuts. Serve this with a cup of tea, any time of day. This dessert is best on the day it is made.

#9: Miniature Cherry Cheesecakes

Again, cheesecake is a winner. Am I right? These little cheesecake cups are rich, dense, and delicious, much like a New York style cheesecake recipe. They sure to please, and again, can be made ahead of time!

This soft sponge cake is one of the lightest, prettiest desserts you can make – and believe it or not, it’s not very complicated to make at all! This is one of those cakes that would be easy to eat the whole thing in one sitting, all by yourself. I don’t recommend you do that, but… I’m just saying. It’s really good.
